King Janak and his queen, Sunaina, had no children of their own, but they always prayed to the gods for a child. One day, while plowing the field, King Janak found a beautiful baby girl lying in the earth. She had an extraordinary glow, and her presence was like that of a goddess. The king and queen were overjoyed and named her Sita.
Sita grew up to be a gentle, wise, and graceful young woman. Her beauty and wisdom were known throughout the kingdom. However, King Janak had made a promise to the gods that whoever could lift the great bow of Lord Shiva would be worthy to marry his daughter. The bow was so heavy that no one could even move it, let alone lift it.
Many kings and princes from different lands came to Mithila to try their luck. They tried with all their might, but none could even budge the bow. Finally, a prince named Ram, the son of King Dasharath of Ayodhya, came to Mithila. Ram was strong and virtuous, and he had a pure heart. With ease, he lifted the bow and broke it, thus winning Sita’s hand in marriage. The entire kingdom rejoiced, and Sita’s life took a beautiful turn as she became the wife of the noble and brave Ram.
Story 2: The Forest Exile and Sita’s Strength
After marrying Sita, Ram was crowned as the king of Ayodhya, and everyone was happy. However, a turn of events led to Ram being exiled from the kingdom for 14 years. Ram, being a man of his word, left for the forest with his wife, Sita, and his brother, Lakshman. The three of them set off into the dense, wild forests, leaving behind the comforts of the palace.
Life in the forest was not easy. They lived in simple huts, ate fruits, and faced many hardships. Despite these difficulties, Sita’s love for Ram never wavered. She supported him through every challenge, showing courage and compassion. But their peaceful life was soon disturbed by a great tragedy. The demon king Ravana, who had heard of Sita’s beauty and virtue, decided to abduct her.
One day, while Ram and Lakshman were away hunting, Ravana came in the guise of a sad brahmin and lured Sita away from their hut. He kidnapped her and took her to his kingdom of Lanka, which was far across the ocean. Sita, though frightened, never lost hope. She constantly prayed for Ram’s return and stayed firm in her belief that good would always triumph over evil.
Story 3: The Battle and the Return of Sita
Ram, upon learning of Sita’s abduction, was devastated. He called upon his loyal allies, including the mighty monkey-god Hanuman, and together they formed an army to rescue her. They crossed the vast ocean to Lanka and fought a fierce battle against Ravana and his army of demons. With the help of his allies, Ram defeated Ravana and freed Sita from captivity.
However, even after her rescue, doubts arose in the minds of some about Sita’s purity. People whispered that since Sita had stayed in Ravana’s palace, she might not be pure. Sita, being the virtuous and wise woman she was, decided to prove her purity. She called upon the Earth, her mother, to take her back, as she had always been true to her husband. The Earth opened up, and Sita was swallowed by the ground, returning to her mother’s embrace.
Ram, devastated by her departure, continued his life as a king and a righteous ruler. However, he always remembered his beloved Sita and the sacrifices she made for him. The story of Sita Mata, her strength, her virtue, and her unwavering faith, remains an inspiration for generations to come.
